The majority of our out-of-water calls turn out to be ants, spiders, or other insects
found between the contacts in the pressure switch and are often not visible at a
glance. There is electrical voltage going through this switch, so be careful.
DO NOT PUT A SCREW DRIVER OR OTHER METAL TOOLS IN THE PRESSURE SWITCH.
Please shut power down first. Then flip points open several times, and,
usually, the insect parts will fall out if this is indeed the problem. I will often use
the plastic lid of the pressure switch to flip open the points. The plastic lid will
not conduct electricity, so it can be used with the power on, this also giving quick results of being able to see and hear the pump coming on, if this is the problem. Even though the little body parts have fallen out, it is recommended to use a nonmetallic emery board to clean the pressure switch contacts. A lacquer type coating is left from the insects that get cooked between the contacts.
